The End Time Seal

The End Time Seal.

There is a general misconception among Christians that the Mark of the Beast is called this because the Beast gives the mark, but this idea is untrue.

It is true that the second beast “causeth” many to receive the mark of the Beast, but he has no say in who receives it.

If this was so, then one must logically conclude that the mark is physical, and by no means spiritual at all.

Likewise, if it were true, one must also logically conclude that the Lord has no say in the matter. But if anybody believes that, then they are bound to be looking for something that will never appear, and will therefor be found shut out with the foolish virgins when the thief comes.

The Bible speaks of two seals

Both of which the Lord gives.

There is firstly the Gospel Seal, which all must receive to find salvation; and then there is the End-Time Seal which those who never see death will receive at the coming of the Lord in fire and great glory.

Given at different times, only those who receive the first seal will receive the second.

End Time SealAll people who have received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior since Adam have received the seal of the Holy Spirit. See Acts 2:38; Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:30;  2 Timothy 2:19;  2 Corinthians 1:22.

Therefore all those who have died in Christ since Adam have been sealed by His Spirit, it is therefore a spiritual seal.

But the end-time seal is significant in that it is given to those who will never see death, it is to empower God’s people to finish the proclamation of the gospel and to stand in the time of trouble.

This seal is the seal of the 144,000-the unnumbered multitude spoken of in Revelation 7:9.

In Ephesians 1:13 Paul states that at the moment one surrenders oneself to Jesus and accepts Him as Savior, the Holy Spirit seals that believer in Christ for the day of redemption.

Thus, the Spirit of God marks Christ’s followers with the seal of salvation when they first believe.

This is what is known as “the seal of the gospel.”

The thought sequence in the Ephesians passage needs to be noted:

(1) we heard the Word of truth, the gospel of salvation;

(2) we believed in Jesus Christ;

(3) we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit; and

(4) the Holy Spirit is given to us as a deposit (Greek: arrabon, Eph. 1:14); 2 Cor. 1:22 as a first fruit. Greek: aparchē, Rom. 8:23-24.

The “seal” here refers to that divine act.

Sealing has several meanings, three of which are to be noted:

(1) a sign or proof of authenticity;

(2) a sign of ownership; and

(3) a sign of approval. By the sealing, God proclaims that we belong to Him; we are His own; He approves and accepts our faith in order that we may grow in Him; and He will help us live authentic lives of love, faith, and hope 2 Cor. 13:14; 2 Pet. 3:18.

All these nuances are relevant for God’s sealing of those who believe in Him.

As a sign of ownership, sealing indicates belonging to, as well as an approval of, a product.

This gives a sense of validity and genuineness: Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. See 2 Corinthians 1:21-22.

The possession is seen as God’s possession of His people, not their possession of salvation. See Ephesians 1:14; also Malachi 3:17.

The End-Time Seal

At the time of end, those who have the gospel seal will have to prove on which side they stand—with God, or with the forces of evil represented in the book of Revelation as the dragon, the sea beast, the earth beast, the image of the beast, and the false prophet. See Revelation 13–18.

The book of Revelation mentions that during this time of the end, God will place His apocalyptic, or end-time seal on His people. Revelation 7:1–4.

The image of the beast will be formed before probation closes; for it is to be the great test for the people of God, by which their eternal destiny will be decided.

This is the test that the people of God must have before they are sealed. All who prove their loyalty to God by observing His law, and refusing to accept the spurious traditions of men, will rank under the banner of the Lord God Jehovah, and will receive the seal of the living God.

Those who yield the truth of heavenly origin and accept the spurious traditions of men will receive the mark of the beast.

The End-Time Seal in Ezekiel 8-9

The book of Revelation universalizes the message of Ezekiel 8 and 9.

An example is supplied where God will seal His faithful followers before releasing the winds of strife. See Revelation 7:1- 3.

In Ezekiel 9:4, we read, “Set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and cry for all the abominations that are done in the midst thereof.”

This is the seal of God, It is the Lord that sets this mark upon the foreheads, and only on the foreheads of those whom He chooses.

And then He commands His destroying angels: “Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary.”

It is therefore the Lord who decides, not the Beast, for say’s He “I have chosen you,” therefore the Mark of the Beast, and the seal of God are both invisible to our eyes.
